Breast augmentation surgery is a growing industry, and the cost is rising dramatically, particularly in larger coastal cities such as Los Angeles where "Hollywood looks" are in high demand. Seeking breast augmentation surgery outside of Southern California could be a cost-saving solution for many people.

Plastic surgery, whether cosmetic or reconstructive, is a growing industry in the United States. There are many reconstructive and reparative variations of plastic surgery that can help restore functionality and structure to those who have received damaging injuries or illnesses. Additionally, cosmetic surgery in this day and age is becoming a major influence on our society and the ways that we perceive beauty.

The most notorious, and one of the most popular brands of cosmetic surgery is breast enlargement surgery (also referred to as Augmentation Mammaplasty). It is a relatively easy procedure to endure, using a general anesthesia and only takes about an hour for the entire procedure. Additionally, the recovery time (although it varies for individual patients) is usually short, allowing most women to return to normal activities within about three weeks.

A major disadvantage of breast augmentation surgery is its cost. In many areas of the country, especially large coastal cities such as Los Angeles, breast augmentation surgery can be quite expensive -- this due, in part, to the higher cost of living there, but also because of the "Hollywood" stigma of the procedure and the demand driving the prices up. Compare this to other areas in the country, and it's easy to see the disadvantages of the procedure being performed in a high profile area like L.A. or Miami.

The average cost for breast augmentation in California is upwards of $13,000 whereas the national average cost of the surgery is about half that, around $7,000 (including the cost of anesthesia, recovery, etc.). This is why there are now surgery centers emerging that offer travel packages to potential breast augmentation patients, from high cost of living areas that include airfare, lodging, etc. in addition to the procedure itself for half the price of a $15,000 procedure in the Los Angeles area.

These out-of-state solutions may also help people who are seeking breast augmentation surgery to have the procedure completed more quickly because in an area like Los Angeles, breast augmentation surgeons tend to be heavily booked due to the high demand of plastic surgery in the Southern California area.

So, while there are certainly benefits to having breast augmentation surgery performed in and around the Los Angeles area, shopping around other areas of the country could save you thousands in the end. There are hundreds of highly qualified cosmetic surgeons all across the country, and choosing one of them outside of the high-cost-of-living areas could be much more cost effective and convenient.
